Tsitsipas announces his father will no longer be his coach
Tsitsipas posted on social media, announcing that his father would no longer be his coach. "It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that my cooperation with my father as a coach has ended. I would rather let my father continue to play the role of a father, and only the role of a father."
Tsitsipas profile
This week at the ATP Montreal Masters, Tsitsipas was swept out by Kei Nishikori in the second round after a bye in the first round. In an interview with reporters after the game, he expressed his dissatisfaction with his father and coach. "I need and deserve a coach who listens to me. My father is not very smart or good at dealing with these situations, and this is not the first time. I am really disappointed in him!"
But at the time, Tsitsipas said he didn't know whether he would make changes in the coaching staff. "The most important thing for players is to get direct and good feedback from their coaches. The coach is not the one holding the racket, the player is the one trying to execute the game plan. This is a job that requires investment and cooperation together. It must be mutual, and the purpose is to improve my tennis. I don't want to be stuck in this situation all the time."
Tsitsipas wrote on social media: "Philosophy tells us that wisdom comes from knowing your limits and admitting your mistakes. For my part, I realized that the way I communicated with my father was wrong. My father will continue to travel with me, support me, and help off the court. For so many years, I have trusted him as my coach, and I think our cooperation is successful. I'm not sure who will take his place, and I haven't made a decision yet."
"It's time to end this chapter and try to write a new chapter. We have reached a consensus. I promise that I will continue to work hard to improve myself."
