ATP Montreal Masters: Rublev ends Sinner's title defence, Kei Nishikori misses semifinals
On August 10, local time, the ATP Montreal Masters continued. Due to the rain on the previous match day, most players experienced the test of "two matches in one day". Defending champion Sinner first defeated No. 15 seed Tabilo 6-4/6-3 in the third round to advance to the quarterfinals. Then he lost to No. 5 seed Rublev 3-6/6-1/2-6 in the quarterfinals, and his title defense ended. Rublev defeated qualifier Brandon Nakajima 6-2/6-2 in the third round.
Rublev
Rublev's opponent in the semifinals will be Italian player Arnoldi. In the third round, Arnoldi was leading 4-6/7-6(5)/3-0, but his opponent Davidovich Fokina chose to retire, and he directly advanced to the quarterfinals. In the subsequent quarterfinals, Arnoldi defeated Kei Nishikori 6-4/7-5 and entered the semifinals of the Masters for the first time in his career. Previously, Kei Nishikori defeated Borges 6-3/6-4 in the third round and returned to the quarterfinals of the ATP Masters, but the test of "two matches in one day" on his physical strength and energy made him lose in the quarterfinals and failed to advance further.
Hurkacz
The No. 4 seed Hurkacz also achieved "two wins in one day". He first fought hard for three sets in the second round and reversed the qualifier Kokkinakis 4-6/6-3/7-6(6); then he fought again in the third round and reversed another qualifier Lindknecht 4-6/6-3/6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals. Local player Korda defeated No. 9 seed Fritz 6-4/7-6(4) in the second round, and then he received the gift of No. 6 seed Ruud's retirement and directly advanced to the quarterfinals.
In other matches, No. 2 seed Zverev defeated No. 13 seed Luna 6-3/7-6(5); Poplin saved three match points and reversed No. 7 seed Dimitrov 4-6/7-6(5)/6-3, both advancing to the quarterfinals.
