Arsenal investigate threats to Kai Havertz’s pregnant wife after losing to Manchester United
Arsenal are investigating violent threats sent to Kai Havertz’s pregnant wife, Sophia, following the team’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. Posting to her Instagram story, Sophia shared screenshots of threatening messages sent to her account, including a death threat against her unborn baby.
One message read, “I’m going to come to your house and slaughter your baby. I’m not joking just wait,” while another said, “I hope you have a miscarriage.” These messages were sent after Havertz missed a penalty during the shootout, which Arsenal lost.
Sophia expressed her shock and dismay at the abuse, writing, “For anyone to think it’s okay to write something like this is so shocking to me… I hope you are ashamed of yourself.” She added, “I’m not sure what even to say but please guys be more respectful. We are better than this.”
Arsenal have reported the abuse to the police and are working with a specialist data firm to identify the culprits. The club has also reported the accounts to Instagram, which has since deleted the offensive material. Arsenal will seek the strongest action possible against those responsible if they are identified.
Sophia and Kai Havertz announced their pregnancy in November 2024, and the couple have been publicly dating since 2018. Kai Havertz, 25, is one of several expectant fathers in the Arsenal team, with Ben White and Gabriel Jesus also expecting babies with their partners.
The club is taking this matter very seriously and is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its players and their families. Arsenal will continue to work with authorities and social media platforms to address and prevent such incidents in the future.
