The 2-0 win gives Salzburg Red Bull a significant advantage heading into the second leg, which will be played at their home ground.

In another fixture, Swiss giants Young Boys Bern hosted Turkish champions Galatasaray. The home team got off to a flying start, scoring just 3 minutes into the game when Joel Monteiro netted with an assist from Ugrinic. Monteiro struck again in first-half stoppage time, assisted by Gonvura, to give Young Boys a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Galatasaray fought back in the second half, with former Chelsea player Michy Batshuayi coming off the bench to immediately make an impact, scoring in the 66th minute to make it 1-2. Batshuayi then equalized six minutes later, assisted by Akturkoglu. However, Young Boys clinched the win with a late goal, securing a 3-2 victory. The second leg will take place in Istanbul, where Galatasaray will seek to overturn the deficit and advance to the Champions League group stage.
