In the match held in Kyiv, Salzburg Red Bull took the lead in the 29th minute with Dogles scoring after being set up by Moussa Kunfulo-Yo. Early in the second half, in the 49th minute, Salzburg Red Bull were awarded a penalty, which Kjeragau converted to double their lead. The 2-0 win gives Salzburg Red Bull a significant advantage heading into the second leg, which will be played at their home ground.

In another fixture, Swiss giants Young Boys Bern hosted Turkish champions Galatasaray.
