Formula E’s Girls on Track initiative promotes diversity and inclusion in motorsport through hands-on education and mentoring. The electric vehicle market is an emerging industry that requires a strong foundation of inclusion from the grassroots level to downstream industries. Formula E, through its Girls on Track initiative, demonstrates its commitment to inclusion by encouraging and supporting girls to pursue careers in motorsport.
As Formula E’s tenth season approaches with a double-header finale in London, the series aims to double the number of participants in the Girls on Track program, presented by Hankook Tire.
“The growth we have achieved this year is a testament to our commitment to improving diversity in motorsport,” said Julia Pallé, Vice President of Sustainability at Formula E.
“Not only have we seen a significant increase in participation, but the girls who have participated in the program are coming from more diverse communities who would not normally pursue a career in motorsport.
“Let’s say we are going to change the world of motorsport. In this case, it is imperative that we initiate and support these grassroots initiatives that have helped many girls get started and begin a career in motorsport.” ”
The Girls on Track initiative was launched by Formula E in partnership with the FIA to increase participation of girls aged 12 to 18 in motorsport at all levels.
The program introduces participants to all aspects of the industry, including engineering, mechanics and driving. Through hands-on workshops, mentoring opportunities and educational sessions with industry professionals, the program breaks down barriers and challenges gender stereotypes.
The program takes place at Formula E events, providing an engaging environment where participants can experience the thrill of electric racing while learning about the diverse career paths in the field.
It engages women from across the host city and its diverse communities, providing an immersive educational experience through workshops held on the track and off-track lectures in schools and colleges.
In its tenth season, the FIA Girls on Track initiative extends its reach to local girls across all race venues, hosting 27 events across 11 race weekends on track and in the community.
This season, 70 Women gave inspiring career talks, offering guidance and advice to women in various fields including engineering, technology, driving, team management, sustainability, media and marketing.
