The McMurtry SpeirlingPure prototype set a new lap time record at the CastleCombe circuit in the UK, surpassing F3 and GT3 cars. The upcoming McMurtry Speirling Pure prototype set a new lap time record on the Castle Combe circuit in the UK, easily surpassing records in the F3 and GT3 racing categories.
Under the guidance of former F1 driver Max Chilton, the Speirling Pure prototype completed a lap on the Castle Combe track in just 54.559 seconds. Just looking at this time may not give a clear feeling, let's compare it next. Before McMurtry achieved this result, the official lap time record for the track was set by an F3 car in 2021, which was 4.037 seconds slower. The fastest car in the GT3 category, the Lamborghini Huracan GT3, achieved the fastest lap time, which was 9.796 seconds slower than the new record set by the Speirling Pure.
And this prototype car did not fully utilize its capabilities, with its electric motor power limited to 80%. This small British company has stated that during the period of 2024 to 2025, as power increases to 100% and downforce levels reach 100%, more lap time record challenges will be undertaken.
This is a very interesting milestone, "said Thomas Yates, General Manager of McMurtry. It's not every day that we see a race car and driver who can break records so much faster than before. We've been testing at the Castle Combe track for years, and it's time to showcase the true strength of this race car on our hometown track
McMurtry released the Speirling Pure model in mid-2023, which is actually a production version of the prototype car that broke the climbing record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This small supercar has a sleek and compact body, measuring only 3450 millimeters in length and 1580 millimeters in width, with a weight as light as 1000 kilograms. Its electric power system is equally outstanding, capable of unleashing a powerful 999 horsepower (Hp) and producing over 3G of lateral acceleration during turns.
