Unai Lopez: Glad to see Melcrans back on the court, he deserves better
Recently, Rayo Vallecano midfielder Unai Lopez was interviewed and talked about the new season.
Unai Lopez talked about his former teammate Melcrans, who finally returned after three years of injury. In addition, he also supported coach Inigo.
Talk about Rayo Vallecano's preseason
"The results of the preseason were not ideal, but we defeated Wolves in the most recent preseason game, which still gave us a lot of confidence."
The team's lineup has not changed much this year
"I think this is a good thing, which means we don't need to spend too much time running in, which is an advantage for Rayo Vallecano in the new season."
Inigo Perez led the team in the second half of last season. The results were quite average. Why can he still stay?
"After Inigo took office, he gave us a lot of confidence. He knows us very well and is a coach who can bring out the best performance of the players."
So why did the team perform so badly?
"We fell into a negative mood in the second half of last season, which dragged down our performance on the field."
Talk about your views on Rayo Vallecano
"Rayo Vallecano is rooted in a non-prosperous community, and there are not many such teams. But because I was born in Alsa, a working-class community similar to Rayo Vallecano, it is easy for me to identify with this place. Rayo Vallecano's fans and players have a close relationship, the atmosphere in the locker room is also very good, and everything here is great."
Talk about life here
"It took a little time to adapt at first, but I soon found that this place is great, and there are many leisure and cultural activities every day. But as a Gipuzkoan, I still miss the sea a little, hahaha."
When was the last time you went back to Alsa?
"Just this summer, I came back to visit my relatives."
Vallecas Stadium is also one of the symbols of Rayo Vallecano
"I like Vallecas Stadium very much. It gives people the feeling of watching a game in the past. The stands are very close to the stadium, and you can feel a unique atmosphere. Rayo Vallecano has 14,000 season ticket holders. Because they sit in fixed seats, I can now recognize many Rayo Vallecano fans who come to watch the game regularly."
You have just renewed your contract with the team
"I feel at home in Rayo Vallecano. I am very grateful to Rayo Vallecano. I have had a lot of fun playing in the past few years."
As a native of Guipuzcoa, you will visit the new Anoeta as a visiting player next. What does this mean to you?
"This means a lot to me. My relatives and friends will come. They asked me for 12 tickets in total. I hope they are here to support me, hahaha."
Which do you think is better, the old Anoeta or the new Anoeta? Please talk about this as a visiting player
"The new Anoeta is definitely better. Real Sociedad spent a lot of money on the stadium and the changes here are incredible. It is a pleasure to play here even as a visiting player."
What are your memories of the Real Sociedad academy?
"My years at Real Sociedad were very good and I always praise Real Sociedad. I made a lot of friends in the Real Sociedad academy and some of us later played in La Liga."
As a local, do you dream of playing for Real Sociedad?
"My dream is to play in La Liga and Real Sociedad is obviously the closest option."
There were also rumors that Real Sociedad was interested in signing you back
"Yes, I have news about this too. I am flattered to get such news because it means that I am doing well to be noticed by Real Sociedad."
If there is a chance after that, will you come back?
"I don't rule out any possibility. But I just renewed my contract with Rayo Vallecano and I'm very happy playing here."
Odriozola is the only one left in the first team of Real Sociedad's 95 generation
"Yes, entering the first team is not the most difficult thing, staying is. To gain a foothold in the first team of Real Sociedad, you must work hard enough and be lucky enough."
Talk about Melclans returning to the field after three years of injury
"I'm happy for Melclans. When Melclans was injured, he and I were still teammates. If anyone deserves a better life, it's Melclans. I can't imagine how he survived these three years. I hope he will have a successful season in Eibar."
Real Sociedad lost Lenormand this summer, and Merino is basically leaving. What do you think about this?
"Losing the two of them may be a major loss, because they are the two pillars of Real Sociedad in recent seasons. But Real Sociedad is strong enough, and I believe they can still be among the top."
